Villa Nova x Kyra Cane

The Villa Nova Design Studio collaborated with renowned Nottinghamshire based ceramist, Kyra Cane. The studio developed a collection of fabrics, wall coverings, murals, rugs and cushions using her ceramics and original artwork as imagery. This was an interesting challenge as it involved translating 3D art to 2D imagery.

The designs shown below were developed through concept and curation by Amy, who also provided Kyra with briefs for new imagery where necessary to fully execute the creative vision.

To preserve every detail, the ceramics were photographed multiple times around their circumference. These images were then digitally pieced together and manipulated to create a flattened perspective suitable for wall display. Drifting is a composition combining four of Kyra’s distinctive ceramics, showcasing their texture, movement, and artistry.

Kyra’s work occasionally incorporates metallic pigment, applied in a subtle and sophisticated manner. The project aimed to emulate this effect on a mural, but within the constraints of a product budget, a range of digital techniques was employed to translate the metallic quality effectively into print.

Digitally Printed Sheer & Wall Mural

Upon seeing Kyra’s pastel drawing of the trees at Welbeck Abbey grounds, where her studio is based, it was immediately clear that it should be developed into a design.

The concept was extended into a mural, leveraging the layout to create a commercially viable product while celebrating the textures and color movement of the original artwork.

Two colourways were introduced to reflect the changing seasons of the grounds, a key source of Kyra’s daily inspiration, allowing the design to capture the essence of the landscape throughout the year.
